Karen Smith

Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer, Bruce Power

  • Karen Smith is the Vice-President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Bruce Power. Her role is to oversee Bruce Power’s Human Resources function including Labour Relations, Recruitment, Talent Management, Employee Engagement, Ethics, Wellness and Total Rewards.

  • Karen has been with Bruce Power 14 years and held various roles within Human Resources as well as in the areas of Corporate Affairs, Strategic Support and Corporate Services. Prior to joining Bruce Power Karen worked for BlackBerry.  She also is a board member with the Electricity of Human Resources Canada (EHRC) as well as a member of the Appeals Committee with the Girl Guides of Canada Board of Directors. 

  • Karen holds an Executive MBA from Schulich- Kellogg program, and has a degree in Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University as well as an Executive Certificate in Human Resources Leadership from Cornell University.

 

Sunaina Lobo

Strategic Advisor, trustme.ai

  • Suni is an authentic, values- and purpose-driven leader who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in cultivating high-performing teams spanning multiple industries, including financial services, fintech, supply chain, and technology. This experience gives her a unique lens that has enabled her to successfully enrich organizational culture while also advancing business strategy. Suni’s background and experience, coupled with a relentless passion for fostering a sense of belonging and internal community, helps companies accelerate their journey to become the undisputed leaders in their space.

  • Over the last 20+ years, Suni has served in a variety of leadership positions at public and private companies such as Cisco, ANZ Bank, SVB Financial Group, Navis, Gong and Marqeta. In these roles, she has led several key business and people initiatives that have successfully helped those companies develop strong talent pipelines, fuel growth, and drive business transformation. Throughout her career, she has lived and worked in eight countries (Australia, China, and Singapore to name a few!) and has extensive experience building and leading global teams.

Throughout her career, Denise has developed strategic approaches, collaborated with executive leadership, and led robust teams. She is a strategic HR business partner known for her innovative, out-of-the-box thinking and her ability to provide recommendations that enhance business performance.

  • Denise holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Yorkville University. She is also certified in HR, Learning, and Communications.
